World Amateur Radio Day special event stations will be hosted by our members, calling CQ as W1YCA!
In order to make this a fun and accessible event for all in terms of scheduling, we’re going to operate from 0000 UTC through 23:59 UTC Friday, April 18th (8:00 pm EDT, Thursday, April 17th through 8:00 pm Friday, April 18th).
We’ll be operating under the club call sign, W1YCA, and making simplex contacts. Any of the amateur radio bands in any mode can be utilized during the operating hours, depending on licensure class. You can operate at a higher class if you’d like to team up with a member who holds a higher level license and operate together. You can also operate from your home, mobile, portable, or any combination, and for any hours you wish during that time period.
All calls made under the club call sign need to be logged. You may use your preference of any logging software or method, including manual. If using software, please provide our QSL Manager, Tony, AA3HD, with an ADIF file of contacts. Manual logs can be submitted to Tony at our next club meeting on May 4th.
When logging, please include the following information:
- Call sign of the station contacted
- Date of the contact ( must be 18 April 2025)
- UTC time of the contact
- Frequency the contact was made on in MhZ
- Mode of the contact (such as SSB, FM, CW, etc.)
- Signal report
- Call sign of the club member making the contact
The following wording is suggested for calling CQ during the event:
“CQ, CQ, CQ. This is W1YCA (Whiskey One Yankee Charlie Alpha) calling CQ for World Amateur Radio Day, celebrating 100 years of the International Amateur Radio Union. CQ, CQ, CQ.”
If you’d like, contacted stations can be informed that we’ll send a W1YCA QSL card if they send a self-addressed stamped envelope to the club’s QSL Manager (address is on AA3HD page on QRZ.com).
